Real-Life English--Steck-Vaughn. 5 levels 4 workbooks, and audio cassettes. Essential competencies in real-world settings that learners can relate to. Pre-literacy to intermediate levels. All 4 skills covered in each topic, and the same topics are in each level. You can teach differing levels at the same time. Available for grammar studies also.
English ASAP--Steck-Vaughn. 3 levels: literacy to beginning. Workbooks, audio tapes. Focuses on the language and types of work skills that new residents are likely to need and encounter. Consistent format through all 3 levels, featuring the same 10 topics essential to functional competency and workplace English mastery. Each unit has key language and grammar structures likely to be met on the job, dialog exercises to practice conversation in the workplace; vocabulary lists designed to incorporate specific employer situations.
Oxford Picture Dictionary--New Reader's Press. Beginning to Intermediate with more than 3700 words pictured and defined in context. 140 key topics grouped into 12 thematic areas. Excellent and very popular.
ESL Kit--Basics covered in pull-out cards. Great for practice with specific needs.
Citizenship Now--Low reading level with facts on working on naturalization.
Beginning English Day-by-Day--Literacy Volunteers of America, beginning level. Practical English skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Critical thinking skills introduced also. Available in Intermediate level also.
Culturgrams--4 page briefings that describe a country's background, society, customs, courtesies, and lifestyles. These may be borrowed for a short period or read here in the office. They may not be copied. We also have a Culturgram on the U.S. in Spanish and Russian.
Write on Cue--Beginner level with 160 structured exercises which encourages writing words, sentences and groups of related sentences despite limited English proficiency. Careful sequence of grammar constructions.
